In-ground swimming pools,
let’s dig deeper.

There are a number of things to consider when deciding which style or model of in-ground pool is right for you:

  • the layout and topography of the land
  • the type of soil
  • the design
  • the investment

You also need to think about where the sun hits your yard throughout the day and  how nearby trees and vegetation will figure into your pool’s location. Then you’ll have to plan the layout of the living spaces around the pool. Ideally, you want to make sure it blends in with the other landscaping in the yard and that it’s safe for your family and neighbors.

To guarantee your project runs smoothly and avoid any unpleasant surprises, we strongly suggest you have precise plans drawn up by a landscape designer or architect. Consulting with a master landscaper to maximize the landscaping is also a good idea.

For optimal safety and enjoyment, it’s wise to locate your pool farther away from the house. This will protect you from foundation issues caused by overflowing water and leaks caused by storms. Plus, it keeps noisy heat pumps in the distance.  Finally, make sure you have a fence installed that complies with all current standards. The safety of your family and others is at stake.

The 3 types of in-ground pools,
advantages and drawbacks.

In-ground pool

with panels

This type of pool has a concrete bottom and walls made of steel or polymer panels. These pools require a 36-inch concrete surround around the entire circumference, which is what makes them so strong and resistant at the edges.

Advantages

  • Chic design
  • Huge choice of liners styles and colours
  • Modern landscape style
  • Meets most budgets

Drawbacks

  • The concrete contour can be restrictive and take up a lot of space
  • The choice of geometric shapes is more limited

The fiberglass

in-ground pool.

The monocoque fiberglass pool is installed in an excavated hole and sits on a bed of clean stones. Most fiberglass pools are white, but some manufacturers also offer them in different colors.

Advantages

  • Quick installation time
  • Affordable
  • No liner to change

Drawbacks

  • Limited choice of colours/design
  • Limited choice of geometric shapes

In-ground 100%

concrete pools

In-ground concrete pools are built using formwork walls or sprayed concrete. The formwork wall technique slightly limits the pool’s design possibilities, whereas the poured concrete technique offers almost infinite possibilities in both shape and style. Concrete pools can be lined, but we strongly encourage you to opt for a mosaic finish in epoxy or ceramic.

Advantages

  • High end
  • Endless possibilities in terms of style and colors
  • Ideal for landscapes with unique topography
  • They have a minimum lifespan of 40 years

Drawbacks

  • More expensive
  • Installation takes a little longer because the concrete has to cure and adapt to the environment
