Lawn Aeration

What is lawn aeration? The density and beauty of your lawn depend on several elements. Soil aeration is certainly one of the most crucial steps in maintaining your lawn. There are two popular aeration techniques, staking and coring, but we will talk about the most effective one here; coring.

Why is it important?

This technique consists of making small holes (thatch cores and soil) in the soil to allow water, air and nutrients to penetrate. This allows the roots to develop optimally. Lack of aeration causes poor drainage, preventing water and fertilizer from penet

When to aerate?

Aeration can be done in the spring (in the opening stages of the lawn) or in the fall (in the closing stages). If aeration is done in the spring, it goes without saying that your lawn will take advantage of the summer season to accumulate the benefits.

Why aerate your lawn?

- Promotes deep-root development of the grass
- Reduces thatch on the soil surface
- Allows better circulation of water, fertilizer and air
- Develops better resistance to drought, disease and insect damage

How to proceed with this technique?

The core aeration technique requires a machine, without which the work will be much too arduous and long. This mechanical work with the aerator aims to decompress your soil.

1. Drill into the soil with the aerator; its small sockets remove about 3 inches (below the roots) of thatch and soil.
2. Leave the pieces of soil on the ground. As they break down, they provide minerals that will benefit the lawn. They will remain on your lawn for 7 to 10 days or until your next mowing.
3. Water lightly in the evening, if necessary.
